Three breeders competed for Wiltshire Horn honors but one walked away with all the ribbons, at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show.
O’Loghlin Wiltshire Horn Sheep Stud, Deniliquin, NSW, was consistently awarded the ribbons across all classes.
Judge Finlay MacDonald, Fairburn Stud, Porcupine Ridge, said it was a close call each time, but the O’Loghlin-bred sheep showed good carcase and breed type.
“That’s not to take away from the other studs competing, but O’Loghlin stud is obviously chasing commercial traits, with loin and fat cover, structural correctness and soundness.
“Their sheep always caught my eye as they came out,” Mr MacDonald said.
O’Loghlin stud was awarded Champion ewe for their over-2.5-year-old female; and Reserve Champion ewe for one aged over-1.5-under-2.5-year-old. The Supreme Exhibit was awarded to ‘Dynamite’, O’Loghlin’s 3yo ram.
The stud was also awarded the Leo Harwood Memorial Trophy.
